Marc and Colleen Wheeler, proprietors of The Wedding Festivals, a Bridal trade show company for the Upstate since 1990, noticed a
need for the Upstate wedding industry to have an association in which
local wedding businesses can work together for a common goal; an
Association to keep Upstate Wedding businesses on the forefront of the
industry, to market themselves to brides as a group, to offer networking
possibilities and to create a standard in the industry that raises the level of
ethics and responsibility of the wedding market to it's
customers.
After several years of research into association
structures in other markets across the country, The Wheelers, along
with Bill Flanagan of Weddings with Style Magazine, modeled the association after
a North Carolina Association called The Triad Bridal Association that was
five years old at the time.
With the help of Don Freedman with The
Triad Bridal Association assisting in the organization of
the Association, the group was formed in November 2003 with 50
Charter Members. UBA members are businesses that have a good reputation in
the Upstate. They have been around for awhile and they are not just
learning the trade. They truly care about the bride and their service to
the bride. The members meet quarterly and discuss ways to better
themselves and their business and even how to
work together more effectively at the weddings.
